Parenting can be one of the most rewarding yet difficult experiences in life. Raising another individual is a 24/7 job without paid vacations and, if we’re not careful, could lead to caregiver burnout.

You are not alone if you feel overwhelmed by the demands of parenting. With all the responsibilities of everyday life on top of being a parent, it’s easy to become so busy that you forget about YOU. It’s important to take care of yourself even as a busy parent. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

Practicing self-care will allow you to be more present for your child and better able to address everyday needs. Practicing self-care is the act of performing any activity that improves your overall well-being.
Below are 5 tips to avoid burnout while parenting:
1. Ask for help when help is needed. Seek emotional and/or physical support from trusted friends and
family members. If possible, hire a professional to help with responsibilities.
2. Try to get 7 to 9 hours of sleep daily.
3. Have mommy or daddy off duty hours when the family does not interrupt your “me time”.
4. Use journaling as an outlet to express and reflect on your emotions, thoughts, and feelings.
5. Be intentional to do something every day that will improve your mood. Meditate, exercise, take a long
bath, read, get fresh air, dance like no one is watching, listen to your favorite music, speak to loved ones,
etc.- anything that will help you reduce stress.
